New Calle 13 on the way

Residente_bush Be still my heart. Just received a press release that my favorite dirrrty boricua duo is about to drop a new record, a little over a year after their booty bomb Residente o Visitante. The new one's called "Los de atras vienen conmigo" and it's coming Oct. 7.

Surprisingly, I haven't seen a lot of build-up hype about this. News of the callejeros has been mostly of tour performances, one-offs like a duo with Vicentico, and fun nose-thumbings at the press and music industry. Nothing on their amusing blog, either (check the post asking for suggestions on collabs, which includes a lot of obvious choices and flavahs of the month -- Tacuba, Manu Chao, Amy Winehouse, Shakira, Eminem -- and a couple that might be fun -- Cypress Hills, Kafu Banton, Cultura Profetica).

The release promises that the new disc will not only delve into cumbia villera (the Argie "ghetto" music that's become all the rage in some globe-trotting circles) and Balkan gypsy beats, but sustain the political critique that, along with their utter lack of decorum, makes me all gooey inside.

Stay tuned...

So many friends raved about this. But I realized I get impatient with gothics. Must be the obligatory genteel reticence of it all.

Ed Park: Personal Days: A Novel
A comedy of social manners for the cubicle age. Nicely plotted even when it dips into the absurd. But I could'a done without the tour-de-force punctuation-less email that ties all loose ends.
