I've been thoroughly amused by the bru-ja-ja at Fox News and Macy's over the funny NaCo t-shirt with the slogan "Brown is the New White." Follow's Guanabee's running commentary on it here.
And then I run across this item over at Mother Jones' music blog:
Coldplay have revealed that their new album, currently being recorded by the band in Barcelona, has a "Hispanic theme"… "The sights, sounds and flavours of Latin America and Spain have definitely been infused on this album.
But thank god, "no maracas or castanets." Just the "cool" of Barcelona and Buenos Aires. In other words, white on white. They have cutesy "handwritten" notes about the Barcelona recording sessions on their site.
Of course, the Guanabee snarksters got to this item first, and but there's plenty of love to go around.
A lot of the big acts (and the used-to-be-big, like Coldplay) have a big following among U.S. Latinos and Latin America. And when we love a band, we love it long time. Witness the current Morrissey tour around the U.S., and the Latin American leg of the Police tour.
The Cold ones even get name-checked in Calle 13's "Atreve-te-te":
Esto es directo sin parar one way
Qué importa si te gusta Green Day
Que importa si te gusta Coldplay
Like good bisnesmen, Cristóbal Martín & Juego Frío see that the only color that matters is the green. So rev up the tango and press "record"!
